Education Graduate Students of Colour

A collective by and for BIPOC graduate students

The Education Graduate Students of Colour (EGSC) is a student-run volunteer collective a part of the Faculty of Education at the University of Ottawa. It is inspired by the launch of the
Teacher Candidates of Colour (TCC) Collective in 2019-2020, with the aim to provide a necessary space for EGSCs while also countering and resisting the structural and systemic racisms that exists in our program and the broader field of education, as well as to work towards academic and scholarly pursuits. Our work is made possible by funding from the office of the Vice-Dean, Governance and Student Affairs at the Faculty of Education.

Major Projects

Counter Narratives
Fall Institute
Solidarity Funds
In the winter semester, the launch of Counter Narratives is the main project. This will be a space — a meeting place of sorts — for EGSCs to publish a piece of writing.
In the fall semester, the main project is the Fall Institute, which focuses on a particular topic related to equity and justice. Please refer to the Fall Institute 2020 for details.
Solidarity funds (i.e., up to $200) are provided to EGSCs to work on individual projects related to the collective.
