Counter-Narratives is a student-run journal that focuses on publishing the work of EGSCs in the Faculty of Education at the University of Ottawa. In particular, EGSCs will focus on creating a piece of writing that provides them with an opportunity to bring their own lived experience to the forefront while also contributing to the field of education. Each year, EGSCs are provided a theme, which serves as a starting place. Taking this, we encourage EGSCs to dismantle, disrupt, refuse, resist, and even smash the borders and boundaries that confine academic landscapes.
How can I partake? In September, the call out for a brief proposal (100-150 words) will be open. Once selected, EGSCs can start the draft of their written work. The draft will be edited and then sent for revisions for the final submission. Each EGSC will receive an honorarium of $100 for their final draft submissions. To provide further support for this once a year publication, we will have two co-editors who will provide feedback to all EGSCs before their work is published here. The co-editors will be provided an honorarium for their work, as well.
As an aside, the term "non-academic" is not used to negate the work that we publish. Rather, as a student-run collective, we acknowledge that Counter-Narratives is not an academic or scholarly journal in the traditional sense. Instead, this journal provides an alternative space, whereby this process is a learning opportunity for EGSCs and the editors.
